Whale and Dolphin conservation

What drives WDC

WDC, Whale and Dolphin Conservation, is the world's leading nonprofit organization dedicated exclusively to the conservation of whales and dolphins. Our vision is a world where all whales and dolphins live in freedom and safety. Working globally and nationally, independently, and scientifically, we advocate for whales and dolphins and the protection of their habitats—oceans and rivers—through campaigns, research, field and conservation projects, and education.

Here's what's coming up at WDC in 2023

Whales are our allies in the fight against the climate crisis; their excretions stimulate oxygen production in the ocean by fertilizing tiny algae in the upper layers of the sea. Through their diving patterns, they promote the exchange of nutrients between the ocean layers—known as the ‘whale pump’. With support from the Greenpeace Environmental Foundation, we are funding a groundbreaking research project on the whale pump at the University of Alaska Southeast.
